Tivi 250 is a ranking list of Finnish IT companies based on revenue. I’m going make a deep dive into the ranking list and Porsche Panameras.
Tietoviikko (Tivi for short), a Finnish IT journal, has published its annual ranking of Finnish IT companies. Ranking is based on revenue but one can arrange its own order based on selected metrics. The ranking is named Tivi 250. Annually, Tietoviikko is also nominating the IT-company of the year in Finland, and this year they nominated a company called Vincit Oy as the IT-company of the year. Congratulations Vincit!
The biggest company in Finland (in the IT sector) is still Nokia. I honestly hope I’ll see Nokia in the same position a year from now. I still don’t have a crystal ball so we’ll just have to wait and see. I can’t rescue Nokia even if I wanted :).
I love numbers and listings, so let’s make a deep dive. The ranking list has included only the 250 biggest companies. That’s where “250” comes to the name “Tivi 250”. In order to be able to get to the list, one must gain at least 4.85 MEUR of revenue as did Datame Oy. The last one on the list. If I’d run a business my own, I’d be interested of dividends. And I mean crazy dividends. Dividends that allows you to order a new Panamera every week. But you need to have some net profit to be able to have dividends. Porsche Panamera costs average of 200 kEUR in Finland with taxes. Let me do the math for you. 200 kEUR * 52 weeks = 10.4 MEUR. That’s how much it costs to order a new Panamera every week during one year. I’ll guess you’d get a little discount and maybe a handshake from your local dealer if you’d do that. Lunch for free at least. Let’s dream that you have 100% of the shares to make our calculations easy. In Finland, you have to pay taxes on dividends. Law in this case is not very straight forward, so let’s be easy to ourselves and act like our company is listed. 100% and listed sounds very realistic, but hey, this was a dream. The taxes you’ll have to pay to that amount of dividends is 32%, which means that you’ll have to able to raise approx. 15.3 MEUR as dividends. As we continue to run as easy as possible, let’s assume you can raise all the net profit your company makes as dividends.
Now get back to Tivi 250 list and see what company makes at least 15.3 MEUR of net profit. Technotree Oy (#49) comes close with 15.04 MEUR, but oops, my bad. They had minus sign before net profit. They made losses of -15.04 EUR. But this time we have a winner. Congratulations Rovio, the company behind Angry Birds. You made 35.49 MEUR as net profit last year. You are in good shape enough for me and my Panameras. Actually my good pal works there. Does he have at least one Panamera? Let’s get back to it.
